ALFONSO PIAZZA, late 30s, captain in the New York mob, is as American Italian as they come. His grandfather risked his own life to smuggle vegetables out of Nazi controlled warehouses during the war to feed the starving locals, and the family has been involved in the black market in one way or another, ever since. He is waiting for Finnegan, his Boston counterpart. He doesn’t like dealing with the Irish, but it’s not his call. Both families have enjoyed a longstanding arrangement to share the spoils that come off the various boats from Lake Memphremagog, and there has always been more than enough to go around. FINNEGAN, 35, handsome, is a new breed of Boston criminal. He has a Harvard education, and he is wearing a very expensive looking suit and tie. A stickler for fashion, all his suits are bespoke. Each of them has arrived by his own respective floatplane, and they have both just come ashore. Alfonso, how are you. Good. Good. How are things in Boston? Can’t complain. Summer went by too fast. Along the shore, tethered among the passenger ferries and sailboats, are three non-descript watercraft. Built on a foundation of large steel hulled utility boats, each is slightly different length and each has been modified to a different use. One is a ramshackle fishing boat. One looks like some sort of construction barge. One, nicer than the other two, appears to be set up for lake tours, and is complete with a wet bar and loudspeakers. Maurice explains to Piazza and Finnegan that each has been equipped with a secret wet storage hold, below the waterline.
